Rotary Club to launch Emergency Needs Fund

The Woonsocket Rotary Club was awarded a $1,500 District Simplified Grant at the Jan. 31 midyear district and Pre-PETS conference. The amount the Woonsocket club received was the second largest amount awarded of the $12,484 given to 19 clubs in District 7950 for community service projects.

The local club plans to establish a community Emergency Needs Fund to help needy residents with heat, food and other needs. Community service chairman Richard Lemay has helped coordinate the project in collaboration with Ben Lessing, executive director of Family Resources Community Action, which will administer the application process and distribution of funds. Lemay said the local Rotary Club will donate an equal amount of funds from its own charitable account to launch the program.

Details will be released as the program is organized.
