Full Speed Ahead
The first month of the 2017-2018 year is now in the books. I want to take a moment to thank everyone for their support and patience during this first month while I get my feet wet. I have set some huge challenges and goals for the club and its members for this upcoming year. My intent is to try to make our club better and stronger for the future. With the strength and ability of our members we can accomplish anything.
Some of this year's committees have already begun meeting to plan out the year. The Service Project Teams are also already underway to "Make a Difference" in the community.
The Woonsocket Rotary Charities Foundation met on June 25th and elected Michael Dubois as the Chairperson for the Woonsocket Rotary Charities Foundation for the 2017-2018 year; Congratulations Michael.
The Fundraising Committee met on June 26th and have begun planning events for the year. We hope this year is a profitable one, to help build up our charitable fund, and increase our giving power.
Pam Jalette and her team are planning a Hawaiian themed Family Summer Outing for Sunday, August 13th. Thank you to Pam, Don and all those involved who are helping to bring our extended Rotary Family together for fun and fellowship. Don't forget your Hawaiian shirts.
As October approaches quickly, our biggest event, Autumnfest, will be here before you know it. Allen Rivers and company make the event run like a well oiled machine and can probably run the event blindfolded. But with countless volunteers and new Rotarians joining the team there is certainly no "I" in team. Autumnfest is a group efforts and no one person can do it alone.
This year Autumnfest is promoting itself across the state. On August 24th Autumnfest will part of the "Paw for a Cause" program at McCoy Stadium, raising funds for Autumnfest with each game ticket purchased. Rotary will be showing its support and holding our weekly meeting with a BBQ dinner under the tent at McCoy during the game. We have invited members of the Autumnfest Steering Committee to join us for dinner and fellowship. This example of friendship, cooperating and support is Rotary's way of showing the Autumnfest Steering committee we are all part of a team. The continuous cooperation with the Autumnfest Steering Committee and this year's Chairperson Linda Plays proves a community can do amazing things.
Thanks to everyone who steps up each year to "Make A Difference" and makes Rotary shine.
Respectfully,
Kevin
