2024-2025 Award Recipient

The Rotary Club of Woonsocket’s annual vocational service award is to recognize an individual, business or a Rotarian in the communities of Burrillville, North Smithfield and Woonsocket, who exemplifies outstanding commitment to his, her or their business or profession, over a significant number of years, leaving a lasting influence on his, her or their vocational area and the community in general. Recipients embody Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” and Rotary’s ethical guidelines in its 4-Way Test, a call to moral excellence.
This year, the committee chose three honorees: Ben St. Pierre of Ben’s Lemonade Stand, Woonsocket Chief of Police Thomas Oates III, and Richard Savaria.
- Benjamin St. Pierre
Founder, Ben’s Lemonade Stand, Burrillville, RI
At just four years old, Benjamin St. Pierre began raising funds for charitable causes through Ben’s Lemonade Stand. Over the years, his efforts have generated tens of thousands of dollars for organizations like the Burrillville Animal Shelter, supporting animal welfare and community programs. Now a local icon for his generosity, Ben has inspired countless people with his unwavering commitment to helping others. Supported by his family and community, Ben demonstrates that age is no barrier to making a significant impact. His story exemplifies Rotary’s belief in building goodwill and fostering positive change, inspiring all to give back to their communities. - Chief Thomas Oates III
Chief of Police, Woonsocket Police Department, Woonsocket, RI
Chief Thomas Oates III has spent his career ensuring the safety and well-being of Woonsocket residents. As Chief of Police, he has led initiatives to improve public safety while fostering trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the community. Beyond his professional role, Chief Oates actively supports local nonprofit organizations and community-focused initiatives. From organizing toy drives during the holiday season to spearheading programs for vulnerable families, his leadership reflects a deep commitment to service above self. Chief Oates’s ability to combine professional excellence with heartfelt community engagement makes him a shining example of Rotary’s mission in action. - Richard Savaria
Marine Veteran, CPR/First Aid Instructor, Dive Master, North Smithfield, RI
Richard Savaria has dedicated his life to serving others, both in and out of uniform. A Marine veteran, Richard has continued his service through his roles as a letter carrier, Dive Master, and CPR/First Aid instructor. His volunteer efforts, including offering free CPR and First Aid classes, have equipped many community members with vital life-saving skills. Additionally, his involvement in local rescue missions has directly improved public safety and readiness. Richard’s commitment to education and safety reflects the highest ethical standards, inspiring others to contribute their talents for the greater good. His tireless efforts embody Rotary’s ideals of honesty, integrity, and service to all.
